Assessors land value mapNote that on the County Assessor's land value map, the river corridor reflects some of the most underutilized property in the city.  If you were to compare this to a City of Denver, or City of Golden river corridor map, you find find the exact opposite. In these cities, being near the river is VALUED, and the land use nearby reflects that!

The issue though, is not one of "land values", but of appropriate relationship with the river corridor.  The INDUSTRIAL/COMMERCIAL zoning is a vestige of outdated and antiquated land-use management and is bad for both the economy of Longmont, and bad regarding environmental stewardship of the river itself.  LONGMONT deserves better!  What will it take to get our heads out of the sand?!!
